Mirror Montage

22 05 2015

We have tried mirror images in another lesson, but this is a different take on mirroring images. I dragged my bike out of the garage and dusted it off! Haven’t ridden it in awhile. I took pictures of the whole bike and close-ups of the pedal and the derailer. I chose this photo to submit for the class lesson:

The tires on my bicycle are flat because I haven't ridden it in awhile. But I thought it would make for some interesting mirror montages. This image is a close-up of the derailer. I flipped the second layer, but did not move it. I used Lightroom presets - Colorize Orange and HDR (Medium) to process the image. The bike was leaning up against our fence. You can see some other bike montages on my blog: https://needlepointernc.wordpress.com/

The Road

18 05 2015

I waited until the last minute to do this weeks lesson – The Road. Couldn’t find any good roads around and came up with this:

The strawberry field is almost done picking for the season. Might get one last bunch in the morning. This road leads up to the stand. This field is not far from the house. Not very inspired this week for road photos.

Red

17 05 2015

There is red all around us. Red cars, red doors, red birds, and red flowers. This week I took out the Avon Cranberry Wine glasses that we got for a wedding present. They are still in the original box. I used Lightroom to remove all of the other colors except the red:

What is black and white and red allover? I found a lot of red things to take photos of and have taken photos of most them in other challenges. We live in Raleigh where red means NC State. We lived in Omaha where red meant Cornhuskers. But, I decided to take a photo of these Avon Cranberry Wine Glasses that we got as a wedding present in 1992. They are kept in the original box. We have never used them! I took the photo on the porch railing in the sun. I used the Lightroom Color Isolate Red (a Matt Kozlowski preset) to remove all colors but the red. If you want to see other red photos, check out my blog at: https://needlepointernc.wordpress.com/

Always good to keep the original box! Some of the other photos I took on the front porch today:

Loved Ones

8 05 2015

This weeks lesson was all about taking photos of Loved Ones. I thought I would use some of the new photos I just got from my Aunt in April of my Dad. His birthday is in a few weeks. He was born May 26, 1926 in Hartford, CT. But he grew up in Worcester, MA. I had never seen these baby pictures and the older photo might have been taken when he graduated High School but it is not the same as his yearbook picture.

My Dad passed away in 1991. He ws born May 26, 1926 in Hartford, CT but moved to Worcester, MA where I grew up. So, this month when I think of loved ones, I think of my Dad. We were in Worceser for Easter and Passover to see my Mom and friends and family. My Dad's sister was packing her 38 years of stuff and found a box of photos that had belonged to their Mother - my Bubbie. There were baby pictures of my Dad that I had never seen. I took photos of the photos and merged them in PSE. I also took a photo of my Dad's first love letter to my Mom and used that as a texture. I added another texture to make it look older. You can see more loved ones on my blog: https://needlepointernc.wordpress.com/

Easter Sunday in Lakeville, MA. With my Niece and her husband and baby to be. My college roommate Chris is her Mom. Riley and Kevin get along just fine. Mom again with Kevin and with one of her CNAs who calls her Nurse Edna and can always get her to smile. She always throws out the Yiddish words with a Ghanaian accent!

Dreamscapes

1 05 2015

This week’s lesson was all about creating a dreamscape image. Take a photo and use Photoshop to create a dreamy image. I used method 2 from the lesson – import the image, duplicate the layer, use the multiply option, and use the gaussian blur filter on the duplicate layer, merge the layers and make lighting adjustments.

Our knockout roses are in bloom this week. Used one of the rose blooms to create my dreamscape. I used the Cold Tone Lightroom preset to take out most of the color in the original image and then created this image:

This is the original:

Here are some other dreamscape images I created from photos I took for other lessons in this class:

I took this photo a few years ago at Niche Gardens. The first image is the original photo and the second image has been dreamscaped:
