Day 133 Theme #146 Holidays

Decoration Day, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

Memorial Day or Decoration Day are one of the Federal HOLIDAYS that we celebrate here in the United States. Decoration Day started after the Civil War in the South so families could gather at their loved ones graves to celebrate their sacrifices. The holiday then became Memorial Day in the North.

Kevin actually took this photo at Gethsemane Cemetery in Zebulon, North Carolina. He was helping walk the cemetery looking for Find-A-Grave requests. We found all but one of the markers that we were looking for. I just got two more requests today for other markers.

We should always remember the sacrifice of our heros.

I love doing Find-a-Grave shots, but I get about 30 a week. Luckily there are a lot of other people volunteering and they get picked up quickly. I went to the 150 year anniversary of the Civil War event tonight at the cemetery by me. I’ll see if there are any shots worth posting.
