Day 72 Theme #330 Three

30 03 2011

Blue Bottles, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

THREE bottles on the kitchen windowsill.

I used Lightroom to keep just the blue color.

Day 71 Theme #1 Abstract

30 03 2011

Abstract Raindrops, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

I got this ABSTRACT shot of the raindrops in the trees by accident. I set the camera on the ADEP setting and got this shot. ADEP is the auto depth of field setting, but instead of focusing the right way, it just took a long exposure. I used Lightroom to enhance the colors.

Day 70 Theme #324 The Letter W

30 03 2011

Bottles on the Shelf, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

I love blue glass and this is an old Alka Seltzer bottle. THE LETTER W is for WISHBONE. We always save the turkey wishbone and make a wish with it. It is a gray rainy day today.

I used the DRAGAN preset and the Blue Only preset in Lightroom to process this shot.

Day 69 Theme #43 Challenging

25 03 2011

Tulip Time, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

It is CHALLENGING to grow tulips here in the South (in addition to the Lilacs I just posted about). They need a cold winter to set. For some reason we have pretty good luck getting them to bloom in our yard. The rabbits nibbled on some of the leaves, but the deer don’t seem to like this variety. These are growing under our mailbox.

Day 68 Theme #5 Amazing

25 03 2011

Lilac, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

It is AMAZING that our Lilac Tree finally bloomed. Lilacs don’t do well in the South, so I don’t know why the people who we bought the house from planted a whole bunch of little Lilac trees in the backyard. They planted them in a shady spot so we moved this one out to the front yard where it gets more sun. We moved into our house in 2001, so that is how long it has taken us to get just a few flowers.

I love the scent of Lilacs and remember the huge Lilac hedges that one of our neighbors had back in Worcester, Massachusetts. This brings me back to then.

I used the Dragan preset in Lightroom to process this image.

Day 67 Theme #353 Water

22 03 2011

It was time to WATER the pots that we had stored in the shed over the winter. Hopefully the plants will come back. Probably not, because they never got watered over the winter. But you never know.

Day 66 Theme #197 Neglected

22 03 2011

Emily Upchurch Neglected, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

This headstone is in a NEGLECTED family plot only 2 miles from my house. I got a request on Find-a-Grave to find a photo of Kearney Upchurch but his headstone is missing. I did find the headstone of his wife Emily. Born in 1813 and died in 1872 in North Carolina.

Here is what the family plot looks like. It was recently uncovered to this state and can be seen from the road.
