Snowman Photo With Batik Look

Snowman Batik Look, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

After I saw Tammy’s Owl picture, I had to buy the Fractalius plug-in (get the plug-in). I used the rounded option to transform my snowman photo into a batik-looking image. It is a cool filter to play with!

Here is the same photo with the Craquelure filter. I cranked it up too and it is still kind of subtle on this photo.

Hmm – more toys to play with! Thanks, Ruth-Ellen. That really does look batik-y.

I just laughed when I saw this! You are going to be spending a lot of time getting the most out of this effect.

Thanks for showing us what you can achieve with this plug-in, looking forward to more.

Would the craquele filter do a similar job Ruth-Ellen?

I think the craquele filter is more divided lines. This filter has a bunch of different options but it makes the lines look more like feathers or lightening. This is the rounded option of the filter. You can change so many of the options so there are lots of possibilities. I will be playing with it more.

I asked because being an Indonesian Linguist, I have an interest in batik, and the separations I have got when playing with craquele I saw a similarity even more so than this effect, and I consider you an Authority of this type of thing. Live and learn!

I was wrong about the craquelure filter. I was thinking it was more like cracks. I tried it on the snowman and it has a different texture, but it still isn’t like the Fractalius filter. I will post the one I did.

Very fun effect! I have to get to learn the tools I already have before spending another $40 on plug-ins!

I just tried to get fractalius and I can’t get it to download — I’m using windows 7 and I’ve put a note into John Redfield. I’m so disappointed.

I have windows 7 too and had no problem…wonder if it is just a gliche w/ the system?? Hope you get it soon!

I had trouble getting it to load too. It took like 4 tries. I think it finally installed when I created a Redfield folder in my Photoshop 9 plug-in folder before installing. But for that much money it should install better than that.

I’m going to keep trying as I do love the effect it gives!
