Week 41 Photo of the Week, Minuteman, Concord and Lexington, 1993

30 09 2009

The Minute Man Statue (Daniel Chester French) stands near the Old North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts. It recognizes the Shot Heard Round the World on April 19, 1775 that started the American Revolution.

This is the opening stanza of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Concord Hymn” (1837).

The bridge is located off Monument Street in Concord. It spans the Concord River 0.5 miles northeast from the start of the Concord River at the confluence of the Assabet River and the Sudbury River at Egg Rock. I took these photos from a canoe on the Concord River. The engineering group that I worked for at DEC went on a field trip on the river. I think we may have started on the Sudbury River in Natick, Massachusetts. I don’t remember how many miles we paddled to get to Concord. It was a great Fall day though!

I added the blue sky and used Lightroom to change the color of the Minute Man.

HATS off to you! Saw these hats in a booth downtown at SparkCON. I don’t know what the Fish hat is all about.

Day 271 365 Photos Theme #163 Kids These Days

27 09 2009

Kids These Days, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

It is funny what KIDS THESE DAYS want to be when they grow up! I saw these on the window of the day care at the Wellness Center where I go to exercise. I like the one that says “I want to be a Mommy or a Daddy”.

Week 40 Photo of the Week, Bunker Hill Monument and USS Constitution

26 09 2009

You can see the Bunker Hill Monument to the left and the USS Constitution to the right of this picture that I took from a boat in the Charles River. I took this sometime around 1992? The Bunker Hill Monument is not actually on Bunker Hill but it is on Breed’s Hill. Believe it or not I have never been on the USS Constitution!

Day 270 365 Photos Theme #139 Hands

26 09 2009

Hands, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

All HANDS on Deck! I was leaving the REX Wellness Center and was waiting at the light when I noticed the new walk signals. Talk to the hand and don’t walk until the hand tells you too. Notice the countdown number. I dare you to make it across the street before the countdown says STOP!

I used Lightroom to isolate just the yellow (but it actually is done using the Orange only preset). I bumped up the saturation and clarity. Then I added the Shutterfreak mats and frame.

Day 269 365 Photos Theme #2 9:00 a.m.

25 09 2009

MorningGlory, originally uploaded by needlepointernc.

Morning glories open at 9:00 a.m. everyday. I had to remember to go out then to get the pictures of the flowers open. I haven’t planted morning glory seeds for three or four years. They reseed themselves and come back every year. But they just started to bloom in September, which is a little late for around here.

I used my Muse Lensbaby lens with a star cutout to take this shot. Then I used Lightroom (Matt’s City Lights and Holga Base) and PE7 to process this picture.
