This is a picture of the SMOOTH bark of a Japanese Crepe Myrtle. The JC Raulston Arboretum has 3 of the largest specimens outside Japan. We have several Crepe Myrtles in front of our house, but they are cultivars. They bloom most of the hottest part of the summer here and are drought tolerant.

PS. Lenten Rose is actually the name of one variety of Hellebore, not another name for a Hellebore. I was confused :-). The pink variety we have is Lenten Rose. We have another variety that has yellow flowers.

There is something sensuous abot trees with that type of bark. Lovely shot you captured the feel exactly.
