Curly Tree

I can watch this CURLY barked tree in the window of the room I take yoga in. I took the picture outside looking up into the sky, so I used Elements to add a blue sky (thanks KarenB). I’m not sure what kind of tree this is. It is curlier nearer the top than down near the bottom.

Two Geese Thinking About Mating?

Originally uploaded by needlepointernc

The Canadian Geese were making a racket yesterday and I think it is time to make little BABY gooses. These geese live by this fountain retaining pond and what you don’t see is the parking garage and Birthing Center and Medical Office Building right behind them. It is on REX Hospital grounds. The geese don’t migrate anymore and have become a nuisance everywhere here. Their poop makes a mess and pollutes the pond water.

This is the fountain in the retaining pond. These ponds are made to collect runoff from parking lots. They put the fountains in them to keep the water moving and make it look nicer.

Gas Pump

I used the Posterize filter on this photo cause the pump was pretty beat up. Notice that the button over the 87 octane choice is worn out. This was one of the first tanks of gas that I got when the price dropped from $4.00 a gallon to below $2.00 a gallon. I know we are lucky compared to others in the world, but it is a shock when the prices go up and down so much and are causing our RECESSIONARY ECONOMICS.

Scrumble and Coil

Just in case I don’t have enough projects going 🙂 I took a class to learn about free form knitting and crochet. I didn’t do this in the class. I did the piece on the left that night at home. I had to brush up on my crochet skills in class more than I expected. The coil was made on my wooden spool thingie that has the nails on top that you use to make coils. What do you call that? I forget. I figured out how to crochet a Shisha mirror to a base circle by single chaining around the mirror and pulling it tight as you go around the circle. Check out this blog of one of the people who has written a book about this technique:

Eyes

Went to the eye doc last week to get the EYES checked. I couldn’t see the crossword puzzle clues very well 🙂 so it was time to get checked. I needed a boost in the reading area and we tried a different progressive manufacturer. This one has a bigger reading area. Went today to get my new lenses and took some pictures of the frames for sale.

Hellebore or Lenten Rose

Originally uploaded by needlepointernc

These are Hellebores or Lenten Rose from my garden, so I am using them for the FLOWERS theme but today is Fat Tuesday so I thought they fit the day too. They have been in bloom for awhile now. I have some reddish pink ones too.

They are hard to photograph cause the flowers hang down and I cannot get down on the ground so well these days. The better shot would have been of me falling backward on my bum cause I lost my balance. Good thing we have a fenced in yard. I had to kind of twirl the flowers around to get the shot. I used my macro setting on my camera in program mode set to cloudy day. No cropping or adjustments.

Sunday Breakfast

The placemats are quilted with farm fabric and some older fabrics I had.
