March Madness Has Begun

14 03 2009

Basketball is big in NC. But so far we aren’t doing so well in the ACC Tournament. Carolina just lost to FSU… Duke is playing Maryland now. State and Wake Forest lost in the first round. So, maybe Duke will make the finals. Then it is on to the Big Dance. Carolina is ranked number 1. Anyone up for a wager :-) . Basketball is big here like football is in Nebraska! Tammy can agree with that. Everyone wears red on game day there. Here it is harder because if you wear the wrong color t-shirt you could be in trouble. I have a shirt from each school and I rotate them! But Raleigh is where NC State is, so Red is usually a safe bet.

Digital SLRs ? What Do I Want to Buy

17 02 2009

I only use Canon cameras, so my next new camera will be a Canon DSLR. I don’t know what features I want yet… mostly lots of MP and live view is hot right now. I never thought I would give up my film cameras but I haven’t done much with film and need to use up the film in my cameras (I have an FTB and an EOS Elan II). So, if anyone has a Canon DSLR let me know what you have and what you like about it.

It is in the 60s again today and the garden is starting to come up. Mostly catmint (or catnip). It is all over the yard now cause we don’t have any grass. It has pretty pink flowers. No wonder we always have cats in our yard!

Movies

9 02 2009

I just watched “The Secret Life of Bees” and really liked it. It is on video now. The casting was just like I pictured it when I read the book. The book is also excellent.

And another excellent movie/documentary is “Young@Heart” about the old folks in Northampton MA who are in a chorus and they sing rock songs. It was funny and touching too. Check it out.

Last night there wasn’t anything on TV and I watched one of my most favorite movies “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”. I have seen this like a thousand times. And I just found out that Hero is Michael Crawford – the Phantom! Too funny. We saw this as a play in Lincoln NE when we lived in Omaha. Rip Taylor played Pseudolis – the Zero Mostel part. He played it well, but was wearing these orthopedic looking shoes. He explained that his feet just couldn’t take it any more. It was funny. He of course had to through some confetti. If you are old like me, you will remember him being on Mike Douglas all the time. My second favorite movie is “Cat Ballou”. Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye playing the narrators and Lee Marvin playing the 2 parts. Too funny.

Wake Crossroads

Dead Hard Drive

28 01 2009

So, after starting to rebuild a new disk, it died last night. And DH couldn’t get it to boot at all. Luckily I had only installed a few things and I have all my data on other drives and I do backups. So, may be a few days till I get caught up again.

I am resting up cause we have tickets for Dancing With the Stars tonight. Hope we have good seats. They had buy one get one free tickets. So, they must have not been selling that well.

boston.com posts beautiful photos from Inauguration Day…

22 01 2009

Here is a link to some of the best shots taken yesterday for the Inauguration.

I love the one of his left hand signing a document (what’s up with left-handed presidents :-) anyways). The helicopter flying away and the picture from Guantanamo are special. The shots of all the people on the Mall are impressive. They look like ants.

Virus Spreaders are Evil

19 01 2009

And I don’t mean cold viruses. I mean the people who have nothing better to do than spread computer viruses and spyware. I have been very lucky in the years that I have been using computers and I guess my time had come to get one of these nasty viruses. I got the Spyguard2009 spyware crap on my computer on Friday. The DH tried to get rid of it but couldn’t so he rebuilt me a new operating system. So now I have to reinstall everything. At least all my data is on a different disk and I do backups. But it is a pain in the A** to reinstall and reconfigure everything.

And virus software can be just as evil. Some of it can cripple your computer so much that you can’t possible get anything done. We have a router, we have a firewall and I run spyware software.

These people deserve prison time and should be forced to rebuild every computer that they destroy.

So, I have no pictures yet for a few days. I will catch up.

Tomorrow is a new day though and lets hope the start of better times for all of us.
